Deputy President William Ruto has called on Kenyans to vote for all aspirants nominated under the Jubilee Party during the August polls.

Speaking in Nakuru during a meet-the-people tour, Ruto stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta will need numbers in the legislature to implement government policies should he win a second term in office.

“We want soldiers to assist the President in all the houses. From the County Assembly, the Senate to the National Assembly, the government needs numbers to support its agenda,” he noted.

He further lauded the just concluded Jubilee Party primaries as free, fair and credible, adding that the will of people prevailed.

“The President and I decided to keep off from the nominations to ensure you elected the people of your choice. We urge you to vote for those in our party to strengthen the government," he stated.

The Deputy President's remarks are, however, likely to cause discomfort among candidates who are eyeing different elective seats as independents in perceived Jubilee Party strongholds of Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions.

Most of the independent candidates were trounced during the party primaries.
