The political tussle between Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga seems to be escalating as referendum calls continues to dominate local debates.
Over the weekend, Ruto accused Raila of hijacking the handshake for his own political gains, a claim which Raila has vehemently denied.
"Referendum is meant for losers. They should admit that we won the elections and let us move on. Some of these people are not genuine," said Ruto.
And a section of politicians from Gusii allied to Ruto have joined the debate with some accusing Raila of sabotage.
MPs Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West) and Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango) insisted that the country will not allow any referendum debate until 2022 elections.
"We know Raila well and his antics will be cornered. He is cheating us of unity while his main target is Ruto. We can't allow him to destroy Ruto's chances," said Arama.
On his part, Osoro said: "Nobody is ready for referendum. We have since moved on and it is upon time the proponents of the plebiscite to spare us politicking. Raila's time is up."
In Nyamira County, a section of MPs led by Borabu's Ben Momanyi have intensified calls for referendum.
