Deputy President William Samoei Ruto visited Mombasa county and came in hand with good news to the county residents. The Deputy President was in the county to commission the Jomvu Kuu - Rabai Road at Jomvu Kuu, Mombasa County.
Through his twitter handle the DP Ruto posted, "The Government will utilize Sh70bn to construct roads in Mombasa County in the next three years as we strive for equitable development for all. Let us be defined by tangible results, unity of purpose and less talk."
"We are engaging county governments to turn rural areas into thriving economic hubs through infrastructure development. New roads will create business opportunities, improve access to markets, schools and hospitals, ease movement of people, goods and promote local industry." he further tweeted.
If this proposal comes to fruition then it will be a major boost to the transport sector of Mombasa sector. The transport industry in the county has been marred with enormous challenges of flooding, poor drainage and impassable roads especially during this rainy season.
It is worth noting that the Deputy President was well received in the county with happy political leaders from varied parties and cheerful residents considering the previous political showdown that had been there between top Jubilee leaders and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho. The reconciliation meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga seems to be taking effect and there is more hope for a more united Kenya.
