Deputy President William Ruto has been crowned the Tugen elder.
The Sunday event took place in Eldama Ravine, Baringo county.
The Tugen Council of Elders also endorsed DP Ruto's 2022 ambitions.
"After scrutinising you for a long time, we have chosen you from the long list of our leaders to take over as President in 2022," Mzee Kimanyin told the DP on Saturday.
He was backed by members including Elijah Kimanyim, John Lagat, Singoei Kandie, kipsaina Birir and Jeremiah Cheruiyot.
The elders handed him traditional regalia including animal skin, a club, a spear, a wooden stool and a blessing ahead of the next general election.
"We give you these tools of power ... use them to lead the country and don't blunder," the DP was told.
DP Ruto is expected to face Baringo senator Gideon Moi during the 2022 elections.
