Deputy President William Ruto has defended the choice of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) nominees for top positions including the Chair.
Speaking in his Sugoi home on Wednesday after hosting a delegation of leaders drawn from the Western Kenya region, Ruto insisted that all the nominees had been selected on merit and their nomination had nothing to do with ethnic background.
The Deputy President said it was unfortunated that Wafula Chebukati's nomination as the electoral body's Chair has generated opposition because he comes from the same county as IEBC's CEO Ezra Chiloba.
Ruto noted that the two are up to the task professionally and can serve Kenyans at different capacities given the opportunity.
He also used the platform to drum up support for the newly formed Jubilee Party, urging the Luhya leaders to join and “stop gambling with your political future".
