Deputy President differs openly with Chief Justice Maraga following the decision by the Supreme Court to nullify President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection.
Even before the official releasing of detailed judgment on the matter, Ruto expressed his dissatisfaction even after urging all parties in the presidential petition to accept the court’s verdict.
At Thika on Sunday, he led a group Jubilee allied politicians in criticizing the court verdict which he termed as ‘unconvincing and political’.
“We cannot be intimidated by few people who sit somewhere and start dictating the will of majority. We are going to confirm to Maraga and his team that they were wrong.
“The judgment itself was unconvincing and political. They failed to show how elections were rigged. We cannot be cowed by such courts,” he said.
Although no specific malpractice claim was justified by the court, majority judges questioned the constitutionality and application of electoral laws by IEBC.
The judgment in its part maintained that IEBC ignored, refused or deliberately violated the constitution hence leading to nullification of the entire process.
Even with criticism on Maraga, a section of Kenyans from Kisii and Nyamira Counties poured into streets to defend the decision of the Supreme Court.
