Deputy President William Ruto has said that the elections conducted on August 8 were free and fair.

Ruto, who was alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta declared winners of the presidential election, said Kenyans’ choice should be respected.

This comes even as opposition leader Raila Odinga moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the declaration by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Odinga claims IEBC results transmission system was hacked to manipulate the results.

Speaking in Uasin Gishu on Sunday, Ruto said elected leaders should get down to work, adding that the electoral process was credible and transparent.

“The process (electoral) began by peaceful campaigns anchored on policies and real issues and the people have already made a choice that cannot be wished away,” said Ruto.

The Jubilee party’s deputy leader urged Kenyans to remain united even as the Court hears the NASA petition.

“I appreciate the decision by the Opposition who moved to the court to express their dissatisfaction with the presidential election results.

However, the truth is that the people voted and selected their leaders. It is people who elect leaders and courts only determine cases,” said the DP, as quoted by The Standard. The Supreme Court is on Friday, September 1, 2017 expected to deliver its verdict on the petition by the opposition.
