Deputy President William Ruto has made an assurance that the 2017 General Election will not derail the Government’s development programmes.
Mr Ruto noted that elections were not a crisis to disrupt development saying the Government must continue working before, during and after the elections to deliver services to Kenyans.
He said: “There is a Government now and there will be a Government after the elections, so we do not want to make the elections a crisis because it is not a crisis, it should not disrupt the development agenda of our country.”
He added: “We all know that we have elections in August 2017 and that is why the National Treasury has prepared early for us not to make a crisis out of 2017 so that we can finalize all our programmes.”
The Deputy President emphasised that Kenyans are familiar with the elections circle and the 2017 elections should not slow down development or become an impediment.
He noted that the next budget should give prominence to value for money adding that public spending must be prudent and high value investments should be prioritised.
Mr Ruto was speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre Wednesday when he launched the Sector Working Groups for the Financial Year 2017/18 and the Medium Term Budget.
