The high cost of essential commodities like maize flour, sugar and milk have sky rocketed in recent days leading to an outcry from the common mwanainchi who now considers them a luxury.

The soaring prices and complains from Kenyans led Deputy President William Ruto to speak on the issue and give the genesis of the problem ailing the nation.

While speaking on a campaign trail Mabera grounds in Kuria West constituency, Migori county on Friday, the DP said the soaring prices were caused by prolonged drought that has hit the country.

“The rising prices of commodities was caused by drought that had hit our country in the recent past. As Government, we are doing our best to

solve the problem within the shortest time possible,” said Ruto. Ruto criticised NASA for politicising the commodity pricing and urged people of Kuria to vote in Jubilee government and not gamble with a losing front.“As a community, you should not gamble with your votes by supporting other political parties,” said Ruto.
