Deputy President William Ruto has ordered the Agriculture Ministry to begin the process of registering all farmers and finalize it within 90 days.
The DP says this will help eradicate cartels which have been interfering with the government's subsidy programs.
Speaking at Chepkosom Primary school in Tembelio ward, Moiben sub-county in Uasin Gishu during the homecoming of Trade Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo, Ruto blamed cartels for being behind delays in payment of farmers produce delivered at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and supply of subsidized fertilizer.
This is the first time Ruto has spoken over challenges farmers in the region, his backyard have been facing.
It is only recently that the farmers accused the DP and other elected leaders of remaining silent while they were suffering.
Farmers have been up in arms over delayed payment of over Sh4 billion for the maize supplied at the NCPB as well as lack of sufficient subsidized fertilizers.
On his part, Uasin Gishu deputy governor Daniel Chemno affirmed their commitment to working closely with the national government to ensure the best services is delivered to "wenyenchi".
