Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has reignited the Mau Forest eviction saga.
The governor has put Deputy President William Ruto to task for allegedly failing to address the issue.
The Chama Cha Mashinani leader claimed the DP had done nothing about the agreed resettlement and compensation of Mau Forest evictees.
He was speaking when he held a series of rallies in Narok South over the weekend.
The area is dominated by members of the Kipsigis community.
“I would first like to apologise to you for convincing you to vote for Jubilee. The DP had told me he would address the matter once he ascended to power but up to now, there are no title deeds or compensation,” said Governor Ruto.
The Governor was well received during the rally, an area where DP Ruto got a cold reception sometime back.
The resident accused the DP of failing to implement pledges he made to them.
Governor Ruto further accused the deputy president of excluding Governors Samuel Tunai (Narok), Paul Chepkwony (Kericho) and Kinuthia Mbugua of Nakuru from the talks.
“The DP excluded the governors from the Mau Forest issue and did nothing about it. I was told they met in Naivasha over the same matter and agreed to ‘lift’ the caveat yet they do not want us to know,” the governor said in Sogoo, Narok South.
DP Ruto had promised to address the grievances of the evictees early this year.
“Every Kenyan has a right to live anywhere in this country. You are there rightfully. You are not squatters in your own country,” the DP said while addressing Sogoo residents.
