Barely a week after his Nyamira tour, details have emerged on DP’s alleged hostile reception in the region that is perceived to be an opposition stronghold.
The DP was scheduled to issue nomination certificates to successful candidates from Nyamira in Gesima before departing for Kuria on Friday.
In an event that was reportedly given blackout, angry residents are said to have protested the high cost of living into DP’s disbelief before chanting pro-NASA slogans in the region.
The unfolding events forced the DP to hastily issue certificates before leaving unexpectedly for Migori County even before local leaders addressed a gathering of handful Jubilee supporters.
“We had no malice against him after all it was his first time here. We just wanted to pass a message that the cost of living was high,” said Job Manani, a motorbike operator.
“It’s unfortunate that some protestors started heckling him few meters from where he was sited. Otherwise only few people attended and perhaps that is why he left hastily.”
Although Ruto was not scheduled to tour the region, reports indicate that Jubilee handlers Walter Nyambati and Joseph Kiangoi fixed the trip.
