The Luhya community is tired of playing second fiddle to others and will support one of their own for president in the 2022 general elections, a section of leaders have said.
Led by MPs Andrew Toboso (Butere), Enock Kibunguchy (Likuyani), Yusuf Chanzu (Vihiga) and Kakamega ANC senatorial aspirant Cleophas Malala, the leaders termed as an insult to Luhya community, a promise by Deputy President William Ruto to name Water CS Eugene Wamalwa as his running mate in 2022.
Toboso said the Luhya were focused on the presidency adding that only a fool would fall prey to the DP’s remarks.
“Ruto is playing former President Moi’s tricks where non-existent positions were dangled to communities to secure votes, but it won’t work. Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba has been promised the same seat,” the MP added as quoted by the Star.
Chanzu said leaders were working on how to achieve elusive unity in the community as they prepare to take one of their own to the State House.
"How can a running mate be named five years to an election? He (Ruto) should know our focus is on the Presidency and not on the running mate position," Chanzu said.
