Deputy President William Ruto has called on the church to continue praying for peace ceaselessly ahead of the October 26 repeat polls.

Speaking on Sunday when he attended a church service at JCC church Mombasa, Ruto remarked that the church plays a critical role in ensuring that Kenyans live in harmony.

"Kenya is a God-fearing country, God will not allow the country to perish," he said.

"It is very refreshing to know that in the midst of everything that is going on in our country, God is still in charge. This country will not perish," he added.

Ruto, who was accompanied by his wife, Rachel, pledged to improve security within the church following past incidents of insecurity.

"We will make sure that as is the responsibility of any government to protect your property," he stated.
