President Uhuru Kenyatta on January 5 addressed the nation and named a few members of his cabinet.

As there were changes in the cabinet, with 13 CSs fate remaining unknown as Kenyatta only spoke of retaining six, there was also a change in how he made his announcement.

His deputy William Ruto was conspicuously missing from the address.

This was unlike in the past where Uhuru was accompanied by his deputy, and they wore matching shirts and ties, as they named their cabinet.

With succession politics being in the works, it was not clear why the two did not show up together.

This sharply contradicted Uhuruto's political culture where major decisions have been announced when the two are together.
