Deputy President William Ruto has mourned the death of veteran politician and Laikipia senator GG Kariuki.

The Jubilee senator died Thursday night while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.

In his condolence message on Friday, Ruto described the late senator as a robust debater in politics

“Saddened by the death of Laikipia Senator GG kariuki. He lives an indelible mark in the Kenyan body politic and national psyche.

He will be remembered resettling the people in Ngarua and Muhotetu in Laikipia when the region was dominated by white settlers.

In parliament, he was a robust debater, who articulated issues affecting his constituents with intelligence and deep reasoning.

Kariuki’s wit and humour was a welcome deviation from old school politics devoid of charm and charisma.

He epitomised the never-say-die spirit so much so that he added another feather to his cap with a PhD in 2015.

"I pray God will grant his family, friends and people of Laikipia grac and fortitude to bear this great loss. May his soul rest in peace,” said Ruto
