But behind the curtains, Ruto is a man facing opposition, from within the Jubilee party and his own Rift valley.

Ruto should act quickly and play his cards well to secure his own presidential candidature.

Earlier last week Baringo Senator Gideon Moi speaking in Tiaty constituency declared he would be vying for 2022 presidency and intends to follow in his father's footsteps.

Other leaders who supported the course for Gideon to go for the presidency were West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and nominated MP Saadia Mumin, among others present.

To add salt to injury Raila Odinga held talks with former President Moi, this has seen speculations that the ship has taken another course.

Using his father’s old networks Gideon could pose a great threat to Ruto's 2022 bid.

When asked about the handshakes DP Ruto was quick to rub off any discussions and engaged Kenyans not to misinterpret the ongoing talks.

“Politics is behind us. The next election will be in 2022. It’s, therefore, the time we focus our energies on serving the people who elected us,” Ruto said.

Opinions are sharply divided in the jubilee party after Kanu MPs clashed with the ruling party the question is who will emerge strong to succeed Mr. Kenyatta.
