Deputy President William Sameoi Ruto on Saturday presided over the opening of Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) St. Joseph Parish, Kipkaren in his home county Uasin Gishu.
Speaking during the function Ruto said the church plays a critical role in the country.
He called upon Kenyans to recognize the role of the church in the well being of the country especially at this moment when Kenya has regained its peace after several months of disharmony.
Through a tweet on his official Twitter account, the Deputy President said the church had immensely contributed to unity in the country as well as helping improve education, health among other key sectors.
"We appreciate the significant role the Church plays in nation building: ministering peaceful coexistence and unity among all communities, effective intervention in the education and health sectors, spiritual nourishment and drawing us closer to God through intercessory prayers," DP Ruto tweeted.
This is not the first time the deputy president is linking the church to the well being of the nation. He has always kept his eyes on the church.
During the past electioneering periods, Ruto together with President Uhuru Kenyatta attended a series of church sessions aiming at a peaceful Kenya.
