The proposed referendum by a section of politicians across the two sides of the political divide may prove to be the next battle frontier in the country's political scene even as Deputy President William Ruto camp seems to resist the move.
However, while speaking in Siaya on Sunday, Senate Minority leader James Orengo told off the DP saying that for the Uhuru-Raila handshake to bear fruits, it will be necessary to amend sections of the constitution.
"...in order to get there, we may be forced to change the constitution because the constitution needs all the time to be reviewed. Even Ruto himself in this constitution he says that there is about 20 percent of it that needed a review. It looks like he has changed his mind. Let me remind him that it was him who said five six years ago that we needed to consider other parts of the constitution to get it in line with the views of other stakeholders," said Orengo, a key Raila confidante.
The Ruto camp led by the DP himself has recently dismissed such a move saying that it was informed by selfish political interests.
