Speaking during an interdenominational prayer service at the Chepkemel Primary School grounds in Uasin Gishu County on Sunday, Ruto, who until recently was known for his criticism and scathing attacks on the opposition, seemed to had changed tact and refereed to the NASA leaders as friends.

Ruto said what stands between them is political rivalry which does not translate to enmity.

"Our counterparts in the opposition are our rivals and not enemies, what differentiates us is our political stands," Ruto said.

Coming at a time when the opposition is yet to concede defeat, after President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared winner in both the August 8 and October 26 2017 polls, the DP called for sobriety in the opposition quarters.

NASA has since rubbished the polls, maintaining it was rigged out, and vowed to tirelessly push for electoral reforms.

Ruto urged the opposition leaders to fully adhere to the constitution in its push.

He called upon the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga led team not to use its disapproval of the polls to destabilize the country.

"The opposition must acknowledge the fact that the nation is bigger than any one of us, NASA leaders should therefore ensure that they do not destabilize the nation in their quest. There are many other contests coming in the future and they should not make the nation dwell on the previous one,'' Ruto said.
