Speaking at Ndanai market in Sotik Constituency, Ruto urged residents to vote for Jubilee aspirants in the August polls.

The DP, who had embarked on a voter registration drive in the county further asked residents to register in large numbers, in a bid to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid.

“You have an obligation and responsibility to participate in elections so that you elect leaders of your choice who can take the country to the next level in terms of development,” said Ruto.

“As Kenyans you cannot run away from the responsibility of participating in electing a Government that has the interest of the country at heart,” he added, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

The rivalry between the two leaders worsened after the DP accused the governor of working with the opposition to weaken Jubilee Party's grip on the region ahead of the August polls.

On his part, Governor Ruto accused the DP of diving the country, saying he has no respect for leaders who hold different political opinions on developmental and democracy.
