The Deputy President William Ruto is known for coining a popular slogan ‘Kusema na kutenda’ which translates to doing what you say.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Deputy President while attending the requiem mass for the deceased multi-party crusader Kenneth Matiba at the All Saints Cathedral, the DP said that he learned the slogan from the late Matiba.

He said that Matiba used the phrase ‘Kuuga na gwika’ which is Kikuyu and translates to “saying it and doing it” and which motivated him to come up with his popular slogan ‘Kusema na kutenda’

“I learnt from Matiba the phrase ‘kuuga na gwika’ meaning ‘saying it and doing it- kusema na kutenda,” the DP said.

The Deputy President eulogizing the veteran politician said that although he was young to know Matiba on a personal level, all of us are beneficiaries of his struggles to have a democratic free Kenya.

“Some of us were younger and never got the opportunity to know Matiba on a personal level but we are beneficiaries of his sacrifice to fight for democracy,” Ruto said.

Kenneth Matiba died earlier this month while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi Hospital and he will be laid to rest in his rural home in Murang’a County over the weekend.
