A section of farmers in the North Rift region have taken to social media to remind Deputy President William Ruto that he should be promoting maize and not poultry farming.
This is after the DP opened the first ever chicken auction in Kamagut, Turbo constituency on Saturday.According to some of the farmers who are members of the Uasin Gishu County Forum Facebook group, DP Ruto need to use his position as the second in command to help address maize farmers woes. Here are some of the reactions from residents after the launch of the chicken auction.Arnold Barsu Kemboi - “Nonsense!!! Waongelee mambo na mahindi kuku already iko na market,” loosely translated as "Focus on maize not chicken, Chicken is already marketable."Mercy Maiyo - “kuku waachie wamama na wajue mahindi ndio matumaini yetu yet tunauza kama hiyo kuku yao," literally translated as "Chicken belongs to women and they should understand that we depend on maize farming and still sell like chicken."Kipchenger Zechariah Tuitoek - “When Ruto is in other counties he officiates opening of multimillion projects. Wait until he vists his home in Uasin Gishu he auctions Chicken. However not all criticized the DP with Lorna Boit finding a way of linking the now famous handshakes to Ruto's development initiatives.“Very genuine politician well focused, he doesn’t have time for unnecessary handshake…” she said.“Congratulation DP for showing us your roots of success, we will start here too," added Jonah Koech.
