Deputy President William Ruto could be scared to face Kalonzo Musyoka in 2022 presidential elections, argues political analyst Dismas Mokua.
In unlikely public spat, Musyoka accused Ruto of being behind his Foundation woes after the government ordered its immediate closure and subsequent investigation on alleged money laundering.
Although he has not officially declared his interest, Musyoka, who will be Raila Odinga’s running mate in August, is likely to take over in 2022 as NASA’s flag bearer if at all an MoU he signed recently with Odinga works.
“Ruto could be scared of Kalonzo before in 2022; it will not be business as usual. I don’t expect Odinga in the equation of Uhuru Kenyatta,” he said.
Mokua added: “Ruto is facing a stiff resistance in his Rift Valley back yard and also from a section of Mt. Kenya leaders. Kalonzo will easily beat him should NASA remain intact.”
And Odinga, who once served as Prime Minister, confirmed that he will serve as a transitional president should Kenyans entrust him with power in August.
Already, Ruto is facing unprecedented rebellion from a section of Central Kenya leaders led by Kiambu governor William Kabogo, who accused him of plotting their downfall in Jubilee primaries.
