And the marriage that blossomed in 2013 could as well be over if at all sentiments emanating from both Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta's camps is anything to go by.

"We cannot pretend that all is well. There are cracks and if not solved urgently, we may now build a wall," said Kipchumba Murkomen, a close ally of Ruto.

Nandi senator Simon Cherargei said: "The war against graft is targeting the DP. We cannot sit and watch this happen. We are ready for the divorce."

So near could be the divorce that even Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, a close ally of Ruto, has reportedly registered a party, United Kenya Party, which could now host unsettled Rift Valley politicians.

In parliament on Tuesday, Aldai MP Cornelius Serem, openly linked President Uhuru's brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, to contraband sugar business.

"We all know why Fred Matiang'i is defying parliament. The culprit of sugar business is a brother to the president," he said.

Elsewhere, Kikuyu elders from Uhuru's backyard now want Ruto to retire from politics adding that they do not owe him any debt.

The gestures from Ruto's camp indicates that the DP is well aware of the impending divorce and could be as well plotting to chart his own way.
