Mr. Atwoli had initially during the day warned Ruto to dismiss him at his own peril.

Speaking during Saturday's COTU meeting, Mr. Atwoli asked the DP to heed the calls for a referendum of which if he fails then he will live to remember Atwoli's words.

However, in a quick rejoinder, the deputy president dismissed Mr. Atwoli's calls claiming the referendum is only a push by leaders who do not value the needs of many Kenyans but their own interests.

The DP was speaking during the burial ceremony of the father of Emmanuel Salam in Nandi County where he urged leaders to focus on what benefits millions of Kenya rather than what benefits few individuals.

"There is a big difference between empowerment of citizens through effective manifesto rolled out and power sharing among few individuals.

"We as the government of Kenya, our focus is not the sharing of power between 2,3 or 10 people. Our focus is the empowerment of millions of Kenya," he said.

Ruto's claims come against the backdrop of various meetings by the opposition chief, Raila Odinga, has held with the two former presidents after a pact with President Uhuru.

Meetings that have since caused jitters in the DP's camp which has been alleging that there are plans to derail Ruto's presidential ambitions.
