Kenyans have been complaining over the high price of unga and demanding that the government helps lower the commodity pricing because it is a staple food in the country.

The call for a reduction of unga was also made public during Monday's Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Park where Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to look into the issue.

It is on Monday also that for the first time Deputy President William Ruto weighed into the matter through his twitter handle.

Ruto's tweet elicited massive response from Kenyans on social media receiving over 100 responses.

"We are working to stabilise the prices of essential commodities which have soared because of external factors," reads Ruto's tweet.

However, Kenyans were not friendly to Ruto, with some telling him that it is the same external forces that will vote Jubilee administration in August.
