A woman has sued Deputy President William Ruto for failing to honour paternal responsibilities.
Through her lawyer Gitobu Imanyara, Prisca Chemutai Chebet has claimed that the deputy president has not been facilitating the upkeep of a baby they had while in a relationship.
She says she wants the court to compel Ruto to support the minor.
In her suit, Chemutai said she met Ruto in 2005 while she was a student at Moi University and that the child was born on March 6 the following year at Mediheal Hospital.
"The respondent has failed to provide the minor with adequate and basic necessities such as good health, food, school fees, clothing, shelter and medication," reads the suit in part.
"The defendant has eschewed and neglected his parental responsibility as demanded of him under the constitution of Kenya."
The suit was filed at Milimani law courts on Thursday.
"Unless the application herein in certified urgent, the minor will continue to suffer irreparable loss to healthy growth and educational development," said her lawyer.
