Deputy President William Ruto has called on politicians to exercise tolerance and focus on uniting Kenyans.
Speaking on Sunday at Masii’s The King Catholic Church in Machakos, Ruto said that the country will move forward if leaders unite Kenyans.
Ruto said that it is the responsibility of elected leader to champion for peace and unity.
The DP said that political intolerance and hatred should not be tolerated observing that Kenya has transformed into a modern democracy and that leaders ought to lead by example.
“Political leaders whether in government or opposition must learn to tolerate each other’s opinion and thoughts,” he said.
The DP indicated that the Jubilee government is keen to unite Kenyans. He said that unity and peace will lay the foundation for realisation of development.
Meanwhile, the DP has said that politicians who wish to decamp and join other political parties of their choice should not be condemned.
Ruto said that every person has a right and freedom to choose whoever they want to work or associate with. The DP also said that political re-alignments should not be condemned noting that it is a practice that is accepted across the world.
He also dismissed claims by some opposition leaders that the Jubilee government was concentrating development projects in some areas at the expense of others.
While visiting St Mary’ Rehabilitation Centre in Mwala Constituency, Ruto said that the government has been able to launch development projects in all corners of the country.
He said that some opposition leaders were envious of the government development record and were focused on discrediting it.
“It is unfair and ridiculous for some people to claim that Jubilee government is favouring some regions on matters development,” he said.
The DP stated that the government has outlined a development plan that aims at covering the whole country.
He cited infrastructure projects which he said are being implemented across the country and assured Kenyans of the government’s commitment to fulfilling all its development pledges.
In what political experts have termed as a mission to hunt votes, the Jubilee government is keen to grab the Ukambani votes. The DP’s visit to Ukambani on Sunday was the second one in a week after visiting Kilome Constituency on Wednesday where he launched NYS projects.
Early this month President Uhuru Kenyatta toured Ukambani for three days where he launched development projects.
