Independent electoral and Boundaries Commission is yet to announce the date for the contest, which would define supremacy between the two following the death of Grace Kipchoim.

At Kipchoim's burial, Ruto's allies traded barbs with Moi, who apparently hails from the populous Baringo region.

"I am stand-in MP for this constituency until another leader is elected and I shall work to ensure all development projects are worked on," Ruto said during Kipchoim's burial.

While Moi's KANU will field Charles Kamuren, Jubilee is likely to back Kipchoim's son, Shadrack Kiprop.

"A lion gives birth to a lion. We shall come here with the DP and ensure the work which Kipchoim started is completed," said Marakwet East MP Kangongo Bowen in support for Kipchoim's son.

Both Moi and Ruto are keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta. Coincidentally, they all enjoy close relationship with Uhuru.
