Leaders allied to opposition leader Raila Odinga now want Deputy President William Ruto to apologize to the country for labeling NASA supporters militia.
In the second interview televised by media giant CNN, Ruto claimed that IEBC was unable to conduct elections in certain regions due to resistance by militia with full blessing from Odinga.
“The turnout was good only that IEBC was unable to conduct elections in certain regions due to resistance from militia,” said Ruto.
But South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro says the remarks lack ‘respect’ and would further divide the nation.
“It is quite disappointing that the DP can call our supporters militia. He should come out and apologize unconditionally,” he said.
ODM youth leader Erick Janganya added:” We have seen Jubilee MPs cladding in military fatigue unless he meant them. We are not taking those reckless remarks lightly.”
During the interview, Ruto defended the turnout adding that most Kenyans had kept off polling stations due to threat from ‘NASA militia’.
Contrary to opposition claims that the turnout was below 33 percent, IEBC maintains that over 40 percent people turned up for the widely boycotted poll.
