Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has claimed that there is an attempt by Deputy President William Ruto to get access to Nairobi coffers through Senator Mike Sonko who is eyeing the city's top seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
Speaking during a church function over the weekend, Kidero cautioned residents against electing Sonko, adding that the lawmaker does not have the locals' interest at heart.
“It appears the team that is running against us is not able to talk to Nairobians unless they are in the presence of the President or Deputy President,” he argued.
“The Deputy President wants to represent the people of Nairobi through proxies. But we want to tell him that Nairobians want their own governor who they choose," he added.
Others seeking to unseat governor Kidero include former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth and lawyer Miguna Miguna.
