Deputy President William Ruto has cautioned leaders against politicizing the ongoing reforms in the education sector.
Ruto said leaders and Kenyans, in general, should support the reforms including the transfer of teachers as a measure to streamlining the education sector.
The Deputy President said the transfer of principals across the country was part of the Government’s efforts to fighting tribalism in the learning institutions.
“I want to caution leaders against encouraging tribalism by resisting the transfers of the teachers,” said Ruto.
Addressing mourners during the burial of Alice Wambui Gicharu, the mother of Simon Gicharu, the founder of Mt Kenya University, at her Komothai home in Kiambu County on Saturday, Ruto said leaders should take the lead in preaching peace as well as promoting educational activities across the country.
Present were Cabinet Secretaries Charles Keter (Energy), Eugene Wamalwa (Water and Irrigation). Governor Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu).
Others were MPs Jude Jomo (Kiambu Town), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), Patrick Wainaina (Thika), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Amos Kimunya (Kipipiri), Simon Kingara (Ruiru), Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu), Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi), Gabriel Kago (Githunguri) and Kiambu deputy governor James Nyoro.
He said the Government would take stern action against leaders who interfere with the transfer of the teachers.
“It is primitive on the part of leaders to pretend to prevent teachers from other places to take over schools in their areas. They will be arrested,” said Ruto.
Ruto, at the same time, said politics would not derail the work of the Government in implementing its agenda for Kenyans.
The Deputy President urged politicians to stop engaging in politics and instead join hands in nation-building.
He advised political leaders to dedicate their energies to serving Kenyans, saying voters elected them to solve the problems facing them.
“Our focus as Jubilee is development and unity of all Kenyans. We have no time to waste in politics of who and who gets what position,” said Ruto.
He asked Jubilee leaders to work together and avoid divisive politics so as to serve Kenyans effectively.
Ruto said the development could not be achieved through mere talks but by working together focusing on ways of alleviating the living standards of the people.
