Former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth was on Sunday a chief guest at a five-churches fund drive in Kaptinga, Kapseret constituency in Uasin Gishu County.
Kenneth’s attendance of the funds drive in Deputy President William Ruto’s backyard has raised speculations that he might be among the potential running mates ahead of the 2022 polls.
The former Gatanga Member of Parliament was welcomed by DP Ruto’s close ally Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.
Speaking during the event that was also attended by several other top Jubilee leaders among them Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago, Senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Senate Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki and a host of vocal legislators, Kenneth said DP Ruto was a close friend.
He also pointed out that his visit to Uasin Gishu was a sign of things to come.
“I was invited for a church function but the politicians have turned it into politics and that is a clear sign of what is ahead. You know when there are heavy clouds then the rain is about to fall and as you can see we have very heavy clouds here,” said Kenneth who unsuccessfully vied for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on August 8, 2017 polls.
“DP Ruto is my friend. We are age-mates and we didn’t know each other because he is DP. We must build bridges everywhere. If people want to genuinely build this country then we must work together to resolve issues affecting Kenyans,” he added.
With 2022 drawing closer, the DP is facing a nightmare in picking his running mate from a host of potential individuals.
