A police officer attached to Deputy President William Ruto's security detail on Monday accidentally shot himself on Monday evening.

According to media reports, Sergeant Kipyegon Kemei of the Administration Police department shot himself while leaving for work from his Buruburu home. 

The officer allegedly holstered a pistol on his waist not remembering that he had cocked it and unfortunately pulled the trigger shooting himself on the leg. 

He was taken to an undisclosed hospital in Nairobi where he is receiving treatment
