A police officer attached to Deputy President William Ruto as bodyguard has been admitted to hospital after accidentally shooting himself on Monday.

Administration police Sergent Kipyegon Kimei was be felled by the incident while leaving his Buruburu home.

Kemei reportedly placed a pistol on his waist not recognising that it had been cocked and unfortunately pulled the trigger shooting himself in the leg.

He was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Nairobi where he is receiving treatment in a stable condition.
