In the next two weeks, DP William Ruto’s political career in future will be dependent on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s fate, says Dismas Mokua.

A negative result will throw the smartest politician of his age to political oblivion while a victor to Kenyatta would be the onset of a tough political battle expected in 2022.

Either way, Kenya will have a paradigm shift in politics given an inevitable exit of Odinga and Kenyatta family from Kenya’s political scene.

And Mokua says should Uhuru lose, Ruto will find it difficult to fit into a new system in which the opposition would have taken charge of government.

“This election will be detrimental to Ruto if it’s a negative result. He won’t have a chance to fight from within and his enemies will have an added advantage.

“He ought to have Kenyatta in power to be relevant and that is the only to save his career. Otherwise, a loss will through him to a political limbo,” he said.

Ruto, who is undisputed political kingpin in Rift Valley, has already announced his intention to run in 2022 elections along with Gideon Moi and a host of other competitors.

Back at Rift Valley, both Moi and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto are giving the DP sleepless nights at the elections approach.
