The Friday's trip to Kisii and Nyamira Counties has yet again elicited sharp reactions from among the local political leadership.
During the tour, Ruto insisted that the region could only form government if they 'make proper calculations' in 2022 polls.
"It is all about proper preparations. It is either you chose to win or lose. I am ready to work with all of you," he said.
The region has traditionally voted for Raila Odinga predominantly in the last three presidential elections.
And a section of local leadership have differed on Ruto's continued penetration to the former Nyanza province, a move that has seen divisions between ODM and Jubilee.
"We cannot guarantee him the top job. He has been on the front-line discriminating and undermining ODM leadership," said Nyamira senator Okong'o Mogeni.
But on his part, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, dismissed the influence of ODM in the region adding that Ruto is the best suited candidate to take over.
"It is time we fight the dynasties and if we have to succeed, then Ruto is the right candidate. I am sure he will triumph in 2022," said the NASA MP.
While Raila has dismissed calls to run for 2022 polls, a section of his trusted allies have indicated that he will be on ballot.
