Vihiga senator George Khaniri has laughed off Deputy President William Ruto's recent visit to Bungoma County terming it as "inconsequential."

Speaking on Tuesday, the legislator accused the Jubilee adminstration of failing to stem the rising cost of living, urging Kenyans to vote out President Uhuru Kenyatta during the forthcoming polls.

“When our people are suffering because of the rise in the cost of living due to glaring corruption in the Government, then Mr Ruto comes around telling us they are trying to make the lives of Kenyans better. It beats logic,” he noted.

“Most of those who are not experiencing the suffering of Kenyans have billions of shillings stashed away, and that is why they do not feel the pinch of the high cost of living," he added.

He further dismissed DP Ruto's recent remarks that the opposition was happy to see Kenyans suffer.

Ruto made the remarks last weekend during his tour to Bungoma, accusing the opposition coalition NASA of politicising the high cost of living.

On his part, he affirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that prices for commodities stabilize.
