Deputy President William Ruto has expressed condolence to the nation and the people of Nyeri following the sudden death of Governor Dr. Wahome Gakuru following a grisly accident at Kabati area in Muranga on Monday morning.
Speaking at Lee funeral home, the Deputy President led other leaders in mourning the death calling the accident unfortunate.
The Deputy President noted that it was a sad moment for the family, wife, and children, the people of Nyeri and the Nation as a whole.
Other leaders who were present at Lee included Leader of the majority in the National Parliament, Hon. Adan Duale, Kiambu Governor, CS Mucheru of ICT, the Nyeri Deputy Governor, and Senator Eng. Maina of Nyeri.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that his vehicle may have had a tire burst before the accident. Governor Wahome Gakuru is the second Governor to die in office after Nderitu Gachagua, his predecessor, died in May.
The Governor is said to have been heading to Nairobi for official engagements and to attend a morning TV show appearance.
The Governor had just completed putting together his government and had a grand plan to revive the Nyeri County.
