The Director of Public Prosecutions Mr. Keriako Tobiko has filed a new petition seeking to have businessman Jimmy Wanjigi and his wife Irene Nzisa barred from flying abroad.

Senior Assistant DPP Victor Mule demanded to have the couple ordered to deposit their travel documents in court in the court papers filed on Monday.

Mule also requested the court to increase Wanjigi’s bail from Sh50,000. He said that the bail should be increased to suit the seriousness of the offence under investigations.

“Owing to the seriousness of the offences under investigations, Mr Wanjigi and his wife should be ordered not to leave the country without prior notification to the National Police Service, Directorate of Criminal Investigations and authorization by the court,” Mr Mule stated.

“The cash bail of Sh50,000 granted by the court is inordinately low compared to the offences under investigations," he added.

This follows after police officers who raided Wanjigi's Muthaiga home last week found seven guns; six Glock Pistols and a Shotgun.

Wanjigi's family, however defended themselves saying that they were licensed to have the guns and moved to court seeking anticipatory bail on any arrest issued against Wanjigi and his wife.
