Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has ordered police to launch investigations into the Solai dam tragedy in Nakuru, which left more than 40 people dead.
In a letter to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, the DPP wants the cause of the incident revealed and those responsible brought to account. Mr Haji wants the outcome of the investigations taken to his office for appropriate action.
Two dams in the Nakuru town of Solai burst their banks, with the first one sweeping hundreds of homes and leading to the loss of 40 people with many more reported missing.
Although a multi-agency rescue mission is on-going, the government estimates that more 100 people may have lost their lives in the tragedy.
The nationwide rains in the country have displaced over 200,000 people, with property worth millions of shillings being destroyed in the process.
