Director of Public Prosecution's (DPP) Mr Noordin Haji has ordered the Inspector General of Police (IG) Mr Joseph Boinnet to carry out speedy investigations into the Patel dam tragedy that has so far claimed the lives of 48 people.
In a letter to the IG on Thursday evening, the DPP said that thorough probe must be carried out and the subsequent findings and file forwarded to his office in the next 14 days.
He said that his office will then take action basing on the investigation's report.
"You are hereby directed to commence immediate investigations into the Solai/Patel dam tragedy and forward the file to these office for action," Mr Haji said in the letter.
The Patel dam located in Solai, Subukia , Nakuru county burst its banks on Wednesday night.
The tragedy has so far claimed the lives of 48 people according to the Red Cross.
On Thursday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and IG Boinnet led rescue operations.
Several leaders have condoled with the families of the victims as Red Cross appeals on well-wishers to step in and help affected people.
Other leaders among them veteran politician Koigi Wamwere are now blaming the government for negligence.
Wamwere says that he had warned against the dam that locals had complained that was leaking before it burst its banks.
