West Mugurango MP Dr James Gesami has been backed to take of the ODM chairmanship for Nyamira County after the incumbent, also Kitutu Masaba MP, announced his intention to concentrate on national party secretariat where he serves party treasurer.

Timothy Bosire announced Wednesday at Gekano that he was not intending to contest at the county level, leaving the race open for Dr Gesami and East African Legislative Assembly ODM representative Mr Joseph Kiangoi.

Speaking on Thursday at Kebirigo market where he received a backing from Nyamira County Assembly’s Buttah Omanga of Bogichora and Leader of majority in the County Assembly Mr Laban Masira, Dr Gesami said he was optimistic of clinching the seat.

“I am a loyal member of the party and I have always stood with it even during turbulent moments. I am ready to lead Nyamira County brigade by revamping the party ahead of 2017 polls,” he said.

Masira said the ODM brigade in the County Assembly was confident that the legislator had experience to lead the team after the November 23 grassroots polls.

“As ODM members in the assembly, I want to assure our supporters that he (Dr Gesami) is a very competent legislator and we are ready to work with him. We hope he will lead us well,” he said.

Omanga lauded Bosire for the ‘terrific ' job he did and challenged him to represent the region well in the national secretariat.

“I want to thank Bosire for leading us in a terrific way and we are ready to work with Dr Gesami given his vast experience in politics,” he said.
