Machakos County women representative Dr Susan Musyoka has urged women to report any violation of human rights to the authorities.
Speaking today in Machakos, Dr Musyoka said that women have the tendency of keeping quite when they are battered or when their children have been sexually assaulted. She said that this does not contribute to peace as some might think.
She even encouraged men to report to the police if ever their wives bodily abuse them.
“Even beaten men should report,” said Dr Musyoka. “Some think that covering the incident contributes to peace in the family.”
This admonition was important in that area given that a couple of weeks, one woman had her hands chopped off by her husband following domestic quarrel.
According to thesun.co.uk, that crime was condemned by human rights groups saying that the government needs to take a zero-tolerance stance on protecting the rights of women and girls.
