Angry mourners at a funeral in Marani Sub-county, Kisii County attacked and beat up two brothers, who were accused of killing their uncle.
The brothers are said to have committed the crime after a family disagreement with the deceased.
The mourners then decided to take the law into their hands, punishing the two young men and torching seven houses and two toilets, and destroyed their belongings.
During the burial of the man, elders cursed the incident and the young men alike, saying they should perish and never have a meaningful life.
Other villagers came to their rescue, with the more religious saying they whole incident should be left in the hands of God, who will punish them for their wrong deeds.
The youth, however, were baying for their blood, with others saying they will not let the matter slide away without punishing them.
The area chief promised to ensure the two are apprehended and forced to face the full force of the law.
Such cases are not new in Kisii, with inheritance or even border disputes leading to fights between families and neighbours.
