There was drama at the Nyamira-Bomet border township of Chepilat on Thursday after angry residents stormed into a chemist owned by a man alleged to be helping teenage girls procure abortion.
The residents stormed into the premises led by the area chief, David Ogega and managed to nab the suspect before handing him over to the police at the Chepilat Police Post.
According to residents, Ken Omari has helped terminate a number of pregnancies and was reportedly charging between Sh2000 to Sh4000 to execute the crime.
The chief hailed locals for helping the administration arrest the suspect and containers of drugs suspected to be used for the heinous act were impounded.
“We have been hearing a lot of rumours from residents and we had to execute a joint operation to ascertain the allegations. I thank the locals for cooperating and following the law. I have handed him over to the police and the drugs which we impounded for investigations,” Ogega said.
Residents say the suspect has been executing the crime for nearly five years.
