The members of church together with the girl’s relatives stormed the hospital demanding the release of the girl on claims that they do not believe in medical treatment.

The members walked inside the hospital and prayed loudly when their attempts to have the child released to them were thwarted by the hospital staff.

“We want our child, she cannot be treated as that is against our beliefs," said a member, who sought to remain anonymous.

However, after realising their efforts had hit a snag, the members, mostly women, left the hospital vicinity.

Sub-county medical officer Dr Oren Ombiro said the teenage girl was rescued from their house in Kinungi village on Sunday.

He said the girl’s body had swollen and that they suspect she is suffering from kidney failure.

“The child was brought here on Monday by police on claims that she was sick and her religion does believe in medication,” he said.

Ombiro said that the girl was reluctant to receive treatment but the medical staff convinced her. He added that doctors are attending to her situation and that they expect her condition to improve soon.

The medical officer asked residents to shun such beliefs saying that there health is much important and they should not compromise it.
