Drama unfolded at Nyamataro trading centre after a coffin fell from a moving vehicle and hit another vehicle on the convoy that was heading to Kisumu.
The convoy was ferrying a man from Mombasa, when the unprecedented incident occurred.
Relatives of the deceased were taken aback, when the body that had been ferried overnight came crushing as the brother to the deceased attempted to overtake the matatu carrying the body in order to lead the way.
According to one of the relatives, Daniel Otieno, the brother to the deceased had refused to visit his ailing brother in Mombasa despite the deceased sending out pleas.
“We think the deceased was disappointed that after his brother refused to visit him when he was sick and possibly he did not want him to lead the way” said Otieno.
During the incident which attracted onlookers at the Nyamataro market, the Nissan vehicle is reported to have hit the probox from behind.
“The body fell, crushing the rear windscreen before landing on the boot of the probox” a witness said.
The body was being ferried to Tumbili village, Kabianga location in Kisumu County.
Culturally, the incident is believed to be a bad omen among the Luo community as a ritual has to be performed to cleanse the spirits of the deceased.
