There was drama on Sunday in Embu when a drunk Administration Police officer allegedly abandoned his G3 gun at a pub and started beating residents.
The cop is said to have gone for a drink at a local pub at Kianjokama town before the booze overpowered him- compelling him to abandon his riffle and started confronting residents.
An eyewitness, Benson Muchangi told journalists that the officer became drunk before he started beating an elderly man before residents pounced on him. He was beaten senselessly by the residents in protest, Muchangi said.
Police officers on patrol, according to Muchangi saved the AP officer before they took his gun and handed over to his bosses.
The officers from Manyatta police station whisked the officer away as residents shouted and hurled insults at them. They said the cops should have left the officer who they said deserved to be punished for disturbing their peace.
Embu North sub county Administration Police commandant who arrived at the scene declined to speak to journalists.
He said he would respond to their concerns at a press conference he would convene in his office.
Residents said the drunk AP officer had caused a stir again in Kianjokama town during the December 2017 Christmas celebrations.
